The Janesville Jets, proud members of the North American Hockey League, announced today that head coach Parker Burgess is advancing to become the Associate Head Coach of the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the United States Hockey League (USHL).
Burgess leaves Janesville after two productive seasons with an overall record of 66-41-4-1 (.582%). He was named Midwest Division Coach of the Year during the COVID-shortened 2020-21 season and has helped advance 13 players to Division I schools during his tenure in Janesville.
“There is never a good time to lose a great coach. Parker did an exceptional job for our franchise and our players, and we wish him continued success in Muskegon,” said Jets President Bill McCoshen. “Parker is a strong communicator and connected with players in a way that maximized their potential. He is mature and has a high level of emotional intelligence and patience, which were on full display last season when he brought our team back from a 3-12 start to just missing the playoffs and finishing nine games over .500.”
The Jets’ mission is to develop and advance our players and staff while providing affordable family entertainment to our community. Here is a list of recent Jets coaches and their current positions:
- Erik Largen – head coach, Alaska-Fairbanks, Division I
- Corey Leivermann, head coach, Madison Capitals, USHL
- Lennie Childs, assistant coach, Union College, Division I
- Parker Burgess, associate head coach, Muskegon, USHL
- Cody Campbell, head coach, Minot Minotauros, NAHL
“This is an exciting moment for the Jets and Parker,” said Jets General Manager Joe Dibble. “Advancement is a core value of this organization, and it’s not just for the players but all members of the Jets family.”
“Parker was a great complement to our team and embodied our culture of personal and professional growth,” Dibble added. “While it’s difficult to lose someone of his integrity and talent, he is very deserving of this opportunity to pursue the next level. We’re looking forward to seeing his progression and know that his departure will open the door for someone ready to take their career to the next level. Wheels up, Parker!”
“We have begun our search for a new head coach and already have a strong list of candidates. We’re working to have our coach as soon as possible,” said McCoshen. GM Joe Dibble is leading the search team with help from McCoshen and Jets co-owner Joe Pavelski.
The Jets are in training camp at UW-Superior, with assistant coach Ryan Black leading camp. Black will run hockey operations until a new coach is named.
