JANESVILLE, WI — On their fourth annual Salute to Service benefit weekend, the Jets swept the Magicians in a pair of high-scoring games.
“It was a tremendous weekend and our staff did a great job of promoting the whole event,” said head coach Corey Leivermann. “Great to get our first win at home. Our fans deserve it. It’s great to see our team rewarded for working hard Monday through Thursday for the weekend. This was a small step in the right direction.”
FRIDAY — W, 4-3 (OT)
Friday’s game was the Jet’s first home win of the season. The entire game had high intensity, especially in the first period. In the first, the goals went back and forth between the teams.
The Jets got on the board first from Casey Roepke (5:27, 1st) with no assist.
Then, Minnesota came marching back with two goals around a minute apart from each other coming from Robert Christy, who was assisted by Colin Stein and Jake Hale (6:12, 1st). About a minute later after this goal, Matthew Gellerman was assisted by Hale and Christy (7:59, 1st).
After the Magicians went up 2-1, the Jets came fighting back and tied the game up with the goal from Jake Dunlap, assisted by Grant Hindman (14:57, 1st).
In the second period, Minnesota gained the lead again with the goal from Marko Reifenberger, assisted by Brett Oberle (16:37, 2nd).
Time was ticking by with the Magicians up 3-2 until the third period when the Jets made a huge comeback.
The Jets tied the game up at three a-piece from Jan Lasak, assisted by Nick Nardella and Jordon Halverson (15:23, 3rd).
This period is where the penalties kicked into gear. At 13:46, Henry Sweeney of the Jets and Jonathan Ziskie were charged with big penalties. Sweeney was charged with roughing and unsportsmanlike conduct. Ziskie was charged with fighting, which costed both of these players to exit the game.
Oskar Skymning sealed the game winner for the Jets, after being assisted by Nardella and Isaac Novak (1:36).
SATURDAY — W, 7-5
Saturday’s game was very exciting for the fans to watch.
In the first period, the Jets scored five goals.
38 seconds in, Nardella was assisted by Jackson Sabo and Charlie Schoen to put the Jets up 1-0. The next goal came from Dunlap (5:58, 1st) assisted by Schoen and Jordon Halverson.
Only 20 seconds later, the Jets scored again from Casey Roepke, who was assisted by Max Itagaki and Nardella.
The next two goals came from Lasak at (13:30, 1st) and (13:46, 1st), who was assisted by Skymming on his first and Nardella on both goals.
Minnesota eventually got on the board (17:04, 1st) from Sasha Shorgen, who was assisted by Jake Keller. Then at (17:44, 1st) Brett Oberle, who was assisted by Joel Pavery and T.J. Sagissor made the score 5-2.
Along with many goals in the first period, there were intense penalties drawn from a Magicians player. At (10:21, 1st) Gordon Whalen was charged with fighting, whch gave him 27 total minutes of sitting in the penalty box.
In the second period, the Halverson of the Jets raised the score to 6-2 with no assist (1:45, 2nd).
The Magicians scored again from Jake Hale, assisted by Trevor Kukkonen and Christy (9:59, 2nd).
The last goal the Jets would score in this game came from Nick Nardella with no assist (13:13, 2nd).
Minnesota tried marching back with more goals and their next one came from Lucas Kanta, assisted by Marko Reifenberger, making the score 7-4 in favor of the Jets, still (14:13, 2nd).
The Magicians scored a fifth goal in the third period from Reifenberger, assisted by Colin Stein and Kanta (10:54, 3rd).
