Jets Announce New Assistant Coach Jon Jonasson

The Janesville Jets, proud members of the North American Hockey League, are excited to welcome Jon Jonasson as the new assistant coach for the 2023-24 season. 

Jonasson joins the Jets after six seasons with the Minnesota Moose in the USPHL Premier league as the Head Coach and General Manager. “With his impressive background in coaching over the years, I knew Jonasson would be a perfect fit here in Janesville,” said Jets President Bill McCoshen. “He has served has the Head Midwest Scout for over eight seasons, so we will expect a smooth transition onto the bench.” 

During his time with the Moose, Jonasson saw a lot of success on the ice and well as player advancement with over 80 players advancing in five years. He led the team to back-to-back West Division Championships in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 season. They team also has appeared in four national championships tournaments in the last five years. 

Prior to his time at the Minnesota Moose, Jonasson holds 10+ years of coaching experience at every level. Growing up in Bloomington, MN, Jonasson was a passionate hockey player. Playing three years of Varsity hockey for Bloomington Kennedy. After graduation, he played three years of junior hockey in the MNJHL for the Twin Cities Northern Lights and the Minnesota Owl. Before wrapping up his career, he played one season of minor professional in the AAHL with the Evansville Iceman in 2009. Immediately following his playing career, Jonasson pursued a career in coaching in 2010.

Starting as an Associate Coach for the Phoenix Polar Bears Junior A team of the WSHL during the 2010-11 season. His contributions led the team to a Western Division Championship. During the 2011-2012 Jonasson was the Director of Recruiting for the Cheyenne Stampede for their inaugural season. While recruiting, Jonasson coached Bantam AA locally in Minnesota. Getting back on the bench for junior hockey, Jonassen served as the Head Coach and Assistant GM for the Steele County Blades Junior Hockey for two seasons between 2012-2024. During the same time Jonasson served as the Lead Coach and League Coordinator of Toral Hockey Minnesota. In 2014 he switched to Head Coach and GM of Helena Bighorns Junior Hockey Club in the NA3HL for two seasons. In the 2016-17 season, Jonasson served as the Head Coach and Assistant GM of the Breezy Point North Stars.

Since entering his junior hockey coaching career, Jonasson has moved over 100+ players on to the next level including USHL, NAHL, NCAA Div. 1, NCAA Div. 3, and ACHA D1. With his extensive coaching history and experience with player placement, the Janesville Jets are ecstatic to have Jonasson be on the bench this season.
