Conner Brown commits to NCAA Division I college hockey: Ferris State University

Feb 21, 2024

The Janesville Jets, members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are proud to announce that Conner Brown has committed to play NCAA Division I college hockey for Ferris State University. Conner is leading all NAHL defensemen in points with 47 points in 40 games played. With a huge offensive presence as a defenseman, the Jets are excited to see his game translate into the NCAA level.

“The Division I level will be a great push for a player like Conner Brown,” added head coach Joe Dibble. “He is just reaching the doorstep of his potential and having the opportunity to utilize state-of-the-art conditioning, training, and nutrition. These things will just help elevate him to the next level.”

The Wisconsin native grew up playing in River Falls through peewees. After his peewee season, his family made the move to Maplewood, Minnesota. Conner played one season with the Tartans before attending Gentry Academy in St Paul, Minnesota. Gentry Academy is an accredited school that is founded on the belief that “tomorrow’s leaders are created today.” Gentry Academy is also the alma mater of Jets’ forward Nick Sajevic, a recent Air Force commitment, who played with Conner for four seasons before Janesville.

Conner is in his second season with the Jets sitting on 47 points with 9 goals and 38 assists. He is leading the NAHL for defensemen in both points and assists. “Brownie been a huge factor to our offensive productivity, especially on the powerplay,” added Joe. “The best part we like to see as coaches is how much he put in and worked on the defensive side of his game” His extra work in the defensive zone has shown with Conner’s +/- record being at plus 24 on the season. Notching in three powerplay goals and three game-winning goals as well.

Reaching this achievement is a huge honor for any hockey player, but Conner said that the job isn’t finished yet. “Means a lot to me but a commitment is just an opportunity because you still have to earn your stripes once you get there,” added Conner. “But I’m super excited to go to a historically good hockey program that develops great hockey players.”

Ferris State University currently plays in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association conference in the Midwest. The school was founded in 1884 and the men’s hockey program was added for the 1975-76 season. The Bulldogs have had six head coaches in program history with Bob Daniels in his 32nd season in Big Rapids, Michigan. Bob is the winningest coach in Ferris State history leading the Bulldogs to four NCAA tournament appearances, three conference regular season championships, and one Frozen Four appearance. The Bulldogs also have quite the track record of moving players to the professional level with alumni including Gerald Mayhew, Pat Nagle, Cooper Zech, and a handful more.

The Jets currently sit in 2nd place in the Midwest with 16 games remaining in the regular season the Jets look to secure home ice in the division semifinals. Just like Conner, the Janesville Jets, hope to finish out the season strong and all eyes are on the Robertson Cup!
