Jets Take Game 1 of Home Rematch with Bruins

Nov 22, 2020

The story began just how it had last Friday between the Jets and the Bruins, but tonight the outcome was in Janesville’s favor as the home team defeated Austin 4-2.

The Bruins struck first with a goal from Peter Jacobs before the first period was halfway gone, but the Jets came back fast and furious with a couple of man advantages. Hometown player Jonah Aegerter scored his first goal of the season at 17:08 to tie the game at 1-1, and as Austin was whistled for another penalty, Dominik Bartecko scored a minute later to give Janesville the 2-1 lead on the extended power play. Cal Mell and Cade Destefani assisted on Bartecko’s goal.

Jacobs scored his second goal of the game for Austin early in the second period to tie it up, but that didn’t last long. Matthew Romer scored his first goal of the season to put the Jets up 3-2 at 7:19 with assists from Max Itagaki and Destefani. Destefani then followed up with a goal of his own, his fifth in as many games, to give Janesville a 4-2 lead, assisted by Jared Scott and Blake Dangos.

Janesville was playing down a man for much of the third period, but managed to kill every single penalty on the night to go 8-for-8. The Jets added an insurance goal from Paul Minnehan (assisted by Kyle Neudorf and Jordon Halverson), his first of the season, with less than four minutes remaining to seal the 5-2 win.

Owen Millward got the win for the Jets in net and made 27 saves. Cade Destefani continued his hot start to the season with a three-point showing. The Jets special teams were especially strong on the evening, going 2-for-5 on the power play and a perfect 8-for-8 on the penalty kill.

The two teams face off again for their fourth game in two weeks tomorrow, November 22 at 5 p.m. Fans can follow along with the action by watching on HockeyTV or with live updates on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
