JANESVILLE, WI — Simple, honest effort.

Jets head coach Corey Leivermann said that was the motto last weekend as his team swept the Springfield Jr. Blues.

FRIDAY — W, 7-3

[BOX SCORE]

The Jets got on the board early Friday night, and never trailed Springfield as a balanced attack scored multiple goals in each period. Brandon McNamara and Carter Hottmann each scored twice, and each had a shorthanded goal.

The Jr. Blues had contributions from Jonathan Panisa, who tied the game at 1-1 in the first period, and Carson Jones, whose goal in the second period brought his team back to within one, but that was as close at it came for Springfield.

Also scoring for the Jets were Henry Sweeney, Parker Lindauer, and Nick Nardella.

Riley Sims was great in net, ending the night with 24 saves on 27 shots. Ryan Wilson stopped 32 of 39 for Springfield.

“If we look at our track record versus Springfield, we beat them big, lost big, beat them big and lost big,” said Leivermann. “We won big tonight.”

SATURDAY — W, 5-4 (SO)

[BOX SCORE]

The Jets were on top in the first from Max Itagaki who scored on a breakaway, and Isaac Novak followed up with a power play goal.

The Jr. Blues came back and put up a fight in the second. They ended the second period with four goals, coming from Jonathan Parisa, Giovanni Carabelli, Carson Jones and Jackson Salt.

The Jets’ comeback in the third period came from a shorthanded goal from Nick Gonrowski, and the game-tying goal on the power play from Isaac Novak.

Novak scored the shootout’s only goal, and Grant Riley shut the door on all three Springfield shooters. He finished the game with 25 saves. Ryan Wilson made 39 saves on 43 shots.

“It felt great,” said Novak. “I didn’t know it was the game winning goal right away because they still had another shot, but it was awesome. Just happy we got to win the game.”
