Vet Check-Up: Carter Ekberg

Aug 19, 2017

Leading up to 2017-2018 training camp, media intern Emily Polglaze will be leading the Vet Check-Up feature on JanesvilleJets.com. Twice a week, she’ll catch up with one of eight Jets veterans to see how the summer offseason has been going, and what they’re looking forward to in the season to come.

The first defenseman in the series is #10, third-year Jet Carter Ekberg.

EP: How is your offseason going?
CE: My offseason has been great. I’ve been spending time with family and friends and training for the season.

EP: Have you been doing any skating?
CE: I’ve been skating a few times a week with a group of guys in Pittsburgh.

EP: What skills have you been focusing on during the summer?
CE: I’ve been working a lot on getting stronger and faster and also my shot from the point.

EP: What is your favorite summer activity?
CE: My favorite summer activity has to be golfing with my friends.

EP: What NHL offseason trade or development was most surprising to watch?
CE: It wasn’t necessarily surprising, but I was sad to see Matt Cullen decide to sign with Minnesota instead of re-signing with the Stanley Cup-champion Penguins.

EP: What is your favorite summertime meal or snack?
CE: I really enjoy barbecue in the summertime every once in a while, and fresh fruit.

EP: What do you miss most about the Jets in the summer and look forward to in the fall?
CE: I definitely miss being with the boys everyday the most and I’m excited to get back to Janesville and see them.

EP: Once training camp starts, where will you go for your first lunch break?
CE: I will for sure be going to Potbelly first.

EP: Any goals for the upcoming season?
CE: Our goal for the season is to repeat as Division Champions and get back to the Robertson Cup.
